Home of the officers
The Theresan Military Academy is the training centre and home of the officers of the Austrian Armed Forces.
The Theresan Military Academy was founded on 14th December 1751 by Maria Theresia with the order to the first commandant, Field Marshal Leopold Joseph von Daun, "Make them fine officers and righteous men" and is thus the oldest active military academy in the world dedicated entirely to officer training.
Today, the Theresian Military Academy serves several functions:
- Basic Officer Training for career officers
- Advanced Officer Training
- School education
- Representation and event purposes of the armed forces of the city of Wiener Neustadt
The Theresan Military Academy is divided into:
- Stabsabteilung (The Staff Division), incl. Referat II/Dienstbetrieb (Department II/Operations)
- Institut für Offiziersausbildung (Institute for Basic Officer Training)
- Institut für Offiziersweiterbildung (Institute for Advanced Officer Training)
- Entwicklungsabteilung (Research and Development Division)
- Schulbataillon (School Battalion)
To fullfill its tasks, the Theresan Military Academy is directly supported by:
- Militärisches Servicezentrum 5 (Military Facility Management Centre 5)
- Betriebsstaffel Burg (Facility Management Unit "Castle")
- Truppenärztliche Ambulanz Burg (Medical Center "Castle")
- Rektorat St.-Georgs-Kathedral (Office of the Rector of the St. Georgs´ Cathedral)
