The career officer course
The career officer course takes place between the semesters at the University of Applied Sciences and prepares officer cadets to lead a platoon in the respective branch of the armed forces. A platoon usually consists of about forty soldiers. All officer cadets learn how to lead an infantry platoon.
This leadership training is divided into five sections. These include practical training, exercises and combat live firing. As a rule, the individual sections are not conducted at the military academy in Wiener Neustadt, but on training areas throughout Austria.
The training in the special field is carried out at the respective branch school. In a total of 30 weeks, the basic knowledge and skills specific to the branch of weaponry or specialist areas are taught, as well as the capabilities and characteristics of the respective branch of weaponry.
The course is complemented by mountain training, both in winter and in summer, a two-week driving school with intensified off-road training.
The sports training ensures the basis for the necessary physical fitness.
However, the field of the career officer training also includes representative tasks, such as providing honorary formations or opening the famous officers' ball in Vienna. That´s why, a dancing course is also part of the training.
